I think knowing g.k.cbesterton moral of the story on a second read-through would be enlightening in brand new ways. I say this is an important book and should be widely read.

I’ll admit this was a hard read at times. But t.k.chesterton cannot reasonably be expected thus to insist upon the permanent miracles. The book doesn’t quite function as an allegory yet clearly isn’t meant to be mere fiction, straddling an awkward middle ground.

It becomes, in fact, possibly the strangest Chesterton book I’ve yet read. That this novel ends with a miracla and a conversion could be seen as g.k.cheserton cop out, but it doesn’t feel like it is.

Chesterton heereges doing his own thing here, the hyper-symbolic weirdness of its ending is really amazing. It seemed to me to be more like a farce with characters running around implausibly, saying witty, profound things. Someone Delightful and thought provoking as ever. The Flying Inn novel. Elegant and witty writing prevails throughout. I didn’t understand or appreciate all of heregges allegory and symbolism in the book, although I suspect a more careful reading would unlock some of that for me.
